I realize that this guy is simply trolling for attention and trying to be "edgy", but "Let's Book Philly for (the Super Bowl)" has to be the most asinine piece of sports journalism I've ever seen. And that's saying something.
Let me summarize the playoffs thus far. Atlanta: "Yes! We get to play Arizona!" Carolina: "Yes! We get to play Arizona!" Philadelphia: "Yes! We get to play Arizona!" Good luck with that.
Just so you all know, as a fan of a team that makes it to one championship game every 70 years there is no limit to the amount of cash I am prepared to shell out to attend the Super Bowl should the Cardinals make it. After 30 years of cheering for them, an experience not unlike turning on the History Channel and cheering for the Luftwaffe, I need some payoff.
Pat says:
Are you saying (out loud) that you root for the Arizona Cardinals? As a lifelong resident of St. Louis. who remembers when they left us, I can only wish ill on that team. May the owner and all of his descendents have anal cancer.
And Kurt Warner will break your heart. He is Pamela Anderson and Arizona is his Kid Rock. (Yes, St. Louis is Tommy Lee in this analogy. I'm perfectly fine with this.)
Rob says:
question: what do you think payout is in vegas if i bet on a bird team? it seems to be a good investment, since i have a 3/4 chance of an ornithological team taking the big metal football.
Matthew says:
Go Luftwaffe!
Shane says:
As a born and bred Phonetian (Phx, AZ), I find it somewhat surprising that a Chicagoan is an AZ Cardinals fan.
BK says:
I will always be a Cardnials fan for literally one reason – they kept the Vikings out of the playoffs with a miracle Nate Poole catch on fourth down as time expired in their match-up on Dec 28 in 2003. If I could have found them, I would have purchased both a McCown – no his *brother* Josh – and a Poole jersey.
Chris says:
I'm amazed that Arizona has made it this far. However, I tend to root for the underdog and like stories like the Cardinals. If they continue to win, fine by me. I, also, am surprised that a Chicago native is not a Bears fan but an Arizona Cardinals fan?!?
I don't really have a team to root for since the Colts blew it. It has been a tough year in sports for the teams I follow: IU football sucked even more than they normally do and IU's basketball team would probably get beat at the IU student gyms. I do like the direction the Pacers are heading in and like to watch them; they still need some work, though.
Ed says:
The Cardinals were in Chicago from 1900 to 1959, St. Louis from 1960 to 1987, and in Arizona thereafter. My dad grew up with them as his team and he stuck with it when they moved. He also raised me in the faith.
BK, I recall that game clearly. It cost us the #1 pick in the draft and directly led to a season and a half of Josh McCown as the starting QB. When I went to training camp in 2003 I had a conversation with him and, much to our surprise, he was approximately the dumbest person I've ever met.
Myconfidence says:
Ha! Seriously? The Cardinals? Wow.
Also too, not being a Bear fan in your situation smacks of Communism.
Ha! The Cardinals…
cerb says:
Jesus, being a Cardinals fan from Chicago makes you the biggest South Sider I know.
