  • You know, I heard the news and I said to myself, "Oh, no *way* is Ed posting tonight." I salute you for having had the patience to make the effort of explanation–now go celebrate, you crazy Chi-town Pole!

  • Man, your sports teams have just been on-fucking-fire these last few years, haven't they? White Sox won in 2005, for the first time since 1917. Blackhawks win for the first time in nearly a half century… I guess the only team that came up short was the Arizona Cardinals, huh?

Got any other franchises you support? Because I'm going to bet on them, I think.

  • It was great seeing Jeremy Roenick tear-up last night especially after him mentioning the aftermath of Game 4 in 1992 (greatest game ever?). The Blackhawks deserve this. Especially against the Flyers.

  • I saw Roenick in the post game. It just made me hate Bill Wirtz more for destroying that early 90s team. They could have won multiple cups.

Roenick, Larmer, Nicholls, Chelios, Suter, Belfour, Graham, Amonte, Murphy….and we could go on and on.

Fuckin' Wirtz. I'm glad he's dead.

  • And it's amazing that all it took was his dying to change absolutely everything about the franchise 180 degrees.

Well, except the sweater. Anyone who fucks with the Indian takes a nap and goes to the glue factory, see?

  • It was a long overdue and well deserved win for the Hawks. The sad thing is that the Maple Leafs now have the longest Stanley Cup drought in the league and it's not likely to end any time soon. My favourite moment was the Flyers fans' dead silence after the OT goal. In fact it was so quiet in the stadium, you could clearly hear up Hossa's repeated yelling of "We won the fucking cup!" I don't know why but I found that amusing.

  • Great, GREAT series. As a Philadelphian, I can't say I'm overjoyed at the outcome, but neither team left anything out on the ice.

    Hats off to the Blackhawks.

Now it's on to the World Series (assuming the Phils can remember what their bats are for).

  • i don't think we have to worry about them breaking up this core of Hawks. Hossa is around for about another decade. Kane and Toews are barely legal to drink. Keith and Seabrook are in their twenties. Niemi is young, but I don't know how good he is going to be in the long run. Sharp is around his prime. Byfuglien is about 27. They look pretty good for the long-term.

  • HELL YES! Please no reminding me of the teams that could have been in the 90s! Similarly, I don't want to think about how the cap is about to gut this fan-freaking-tastic group. Not today anyway!

  • I imagine they won't be able to bring everyone back that they want to, but it is a very young team for the most part. It's not like Detroit or anything.

  • It was worth it to see my Chicago-born hubby dance around the living room for five minutes after Kane scored (not after it was ruled an official goal, but after seeing Kane's reaction to the goal). What a great series and what a great result! Let's hope salary caps and all that cal don't ruin a solid young team.

  • @Ed- Amonte cutting his hair had more to do with the abject failure of the franchise than Wirtz and his bucket brigade of assholes and sycophants. Jesus that was a head of hair (think permed mullet about 6-8 inches off his neck for those not able to witness the majesty first-hand)). Only Chris Simon and Jaromir Jagr came close.

Wirtz was/is almost as bad an owner than Glazer (both here and across the pond).

  • I remain indifferent to the Hawks success, but welcome and appreciate it in the context of playing against the phyking filadelfia phlyers. The mere idea of seeing Chris Pronger's name on the cup is completely unbearable.

Thank Moloch they finally started calling penalties against those goons.

Did you see the look on Pronger's face when they called the first penalty on him, after he committed at least 5 infractions in less than 3 seconds? Penalty? ME? At HOME? WTF? I didn't break any bones. What's the matter with you people?!?

Congratulations Hawks. It might be fun seeing your roster get ravaged by the salary cap.

And where will migrant worker Hossa be next year?

    Cheers!

  • If the Hawks had lost to the Flyers, who would have wanted Hossa after that? He would have been on three seperate teams in just three years that had lost in the Stanley Cup finals. Cursed like a monkey's paw. So, good for him!

Hey Ravi, the good news for you is that, technically, the Leafs are tied for the longest active Stanley Cup drought with the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings (42 years and counting). The bad news is that only the Kings and the Blues have a chance to even make the playoffs next year. Toronto's time is coming though; good, smart hockey guy running the show (Brian Burke), a few good, young players and the #2 pick in this year's draft.
Good to see you Blackhawks fans rewarded after all the suffering you've gone through. Detroit can't win it every year and I like seeing a (so-called) Original Six team (and a team from the Midwest) take home the mug. Cheers, you magnificent bastards. Until next year….
